2022 Maison Louis Latour Pouilly Fuisse
#22-2024

The Chardonnay Queen asked for Peel and Eat Shrimp for her birthday dinner, which we usually serve with beer.  But after all, it was her birthday, so of course, we opened a good bottle of Chardonnay.  In this case a 2022 Pouilly Fuisse from Maison Louis Latour from the Maconnais of Burgundy.  It was a better choice than beer for sure.

I have always felt that the wines from Pouilly Fuisse were a good choice when choosing a Chardonnay wine.  They seem more delicate, and yet also complex, when compared to other Chardonnay wines.  The 2022 offering from Maison Louis Latour has a fragrant bouquet, and a kaleidoscope of flavors, ranging from apple and pear, to a mild melon and citrus combination.  The background is vanilla with a touch of mineral.  It has a creamy texture, and a finish which begs for another sip.  The alcohol content is 13.5%. and Norm's score is 92.

The wine was excellent with boiled shrimp and spicy cocktail sauce, but to do it justice, it should be paired with broiled shellfish (especially lobster) served with drawn butter!

score: 92
price : $28 - $35
