2019 The Wisconsin Brewing Company
#13-19

I don't usually write about the art of brewing, but the world of beer is rapidly changing, and is worthy of notice.  I recently met Kirby Nelson, who is the Brew-master at The Wisconsin Brewing Company, and also a high school friend of a friend of mine, whom I have known for thirty five years.  It also turns out that Kirby is an avid fisherman, as am I.  He gave us five different brews to taste recently, which we shared with some other friends, one of which is the owner of The Blue Dog Bar and Grill, which may be the best seafood restaurant in SW Florida.

We had a good time tasting the beer with cheese, crackers, and other assorted snacks, and found that all of the brews were superb!  Our favorite was the S'wheat Caroline an American Wheat Ale which was delicious!  We also liked "Dark Something", a barrel aged Imperial Stout.  Even the Chardonnay Queen enjoyed our "Night of Brews".

The alcohol content varies between 5% and 11.8% for the different brews, and Norm's score is "Good Brew!"  I am not sure which markets the Wisconsin Brewing Company's beers are available in, but if you find some at your local retailer, or restaurant, give it a try.

score: Good Brew
price: $8 - $15

2017 Ruffino Orvieto Classico

2017 Ruffino Orvieto Classico
#12-19

The latest vintage for Ruffino Orvieto Classico is both fruity and delicious, and may be one of the better years in the last decade.  Always a good choice for light fare, and "back porch sipping", the 2017 Orvieto is a good companion for almost any occasion.  This beautiful wine represents the beautiful landscape of Umbria, Italy where it hails from.

The nose is bright and floral. The big fruit flavors swirling in the glass, suggest green apple, melon and a light citrus breeze, before flowing into a crisp, clean finish.  The alcohol content is 12%, and  Norm's score is 90.

We enjoyed the Orvieto with Scallops Alfredo over linguine and a fresh salad of tomato and avocado.  Come summertime, you will want this one out on the back porch with you.

score: 90
price: $8 - $11
