2022 Ferrari-Carano Fume Blanc

The addition of the 2022 Ferrari-Carano Fume Blanc to a dish of Red Patagonian Shrimp and Lobster Ravioli in garlic Alfredo sauce, was a crowning touch.  It just does not get a lot better than this!

The 2022 vintage of this superb wine, like its predecessors is bright and lively with a strong crisp finish.  The flavors assault your senses with combination punches of tropical fruit, melon, and green apple.  The hint of citrus toward the end completes the picture.  The alcohol content is 13.8% and Norm's score is 91.

Great with seafood, this wine is an excellent companion for most spicy dishes, such as Thai, Mexican, or Cajun, which contain a touch of heat.

2022 Oyster Bay Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

This Sauvignon Blanc from down under (New Zealand), was a good choice for grilled fish from another ocean (The Atlantic), when we paired the Oyster Bay with grilled salmon last night.  A bright and cheerful Sauvignon Blanc with good fruit and lots of character made our dinner a success!

The Oyster Bay has a fragrant nose, with scents of grapefruit and melon.  The flavors are apple, tropical fruit and a dash of lime.  The finish is clean with a lasting punch, and the alcohol content is 12.5% and Norm's score is 89.

It was a good choice for salmon, and would also make a great companion for a wide range of summer salads, as well as a good "Back Porch Sipper"!

2021 Ferrari-Carano Sonoma County Chardonnay

If you combine shrimp. scallops, lobster bisque, and rice with Ferrari- Carano Chardonnay, you have a seafood feast fit for a king!  And so, we did!  It was wonderful, and the 2021 Ferrari-Carano Chardonnay is just as good as the previous vintage.

This is a smooth and creamy Chardonnay, which showcases a classic flavor spectrum of apple, pear, and a touch of stone fruit.  There is a bit of citrus breeze toward the end, with a crisp and clean finish.  The alcohol content is 13.5% and Norm's score is 91.

We have paired this one with grilled grouper in the past, and it is a perfect fit for almost any seafood.  It is also a candidate for orange glazed Cornish Game Hen.

2021 King Estate Willamette Valley Pinot Gris

We had an old friend help us enjoy our lobster ravioli last night. The King Estate Pinot Gris has been an honored guest at our house for more than a decade.  The 2021 vintage is big, bold, and bursting with flavor, and made our dinner delightful.

The wine is quite fragrant, with flavors that swirl in the glass, broadcasting peach, pear, and a little apple with a hint of citrus toward the end.  The finish is long lasting, and begs for another sip.  The alcohol content is 13.5% and Norm's score is 89.

Great with pasta and cheese sauce, this big Pinot Gris would be excellent with salmon, crab salad, or perfect for Veal Piccata.

2019 William Hill Estate Cenral Coast Merlot

2019 William Hill Estate Central Coast Merlot

It is amazing how scarce Merlot has become in the market place, especially considering its popularity just twenty five or thirty years ago.  I, however, like all of the wines made from the traditional Bordeaux Grapes, and know that some are more compatible with certain foods than others.  I particularly like Merlot with lamb, but if you don't understand its value, just think, "a delicious red" which is more heavy than Pinot Noir, and somewhat lighter than Cabernet Sauvignon.

The color is a beautiful cherry red, with a nose that suggests ripe fruit, and a bit of spice and cedar shavings in the breeze.  The flavors are robust with the presence of plum and black raspberry, and maybe a hint of mocha, which lead to a mellow oak finish  The alcohol content is 14.1% and Norm's score is 89.

Great with most meats, especially lamb, this Merlot would be an excellent companion for veal as well.
