2015 Dreaming Tree Crush Red Blend
#nb-28-17

During the summer months, we grill out more than ever to avoid heating up the kitchen when temperatures soar into the nineties.  We have tried almost everything on the grill, but our favorite remains a nice thick steak.  Add a fresh garden salad with off the vine tomatoes and a bottle of red wine, and you are all set.  The crush Red was a good companion for our most recent steak dinner.

The Dreaming Tree Crush has a fragrant nose with jammy nuances.  The flavors feature ripe plum and raspberry with a touch of blackberry and an under current of peppery spice.  This is a big fruit wine with a little finesse, and a slight touch of oak in the finish.  Norm's score is 88.

The Crush Red was good with our fillet and would also pair well with spaghetti marinara.

2016 Smoking Loon Steelbird Chardonnay

2016 Smoking Loon Steelbird Chardonnay
#nb-27-17

It may not be a great Chardonnay, but if you are looking for a crisp, refreshing wine for a hot summer night, it might just hit the spot.  The Chardonnay Queen had pretty much the same to say, and thought it would make a good everyday Chardonnay,  The Steelbird is aged in stainless steel and has a very clean finish.

The nose is decent with aromas of melon and tropical fruit.  The flavor is mostly apple with some pineapple, and a slight citrus breeze toward the end. The finish is crisp and clean and does not linger.  Norm's score is 87.

We enjoyed the Smoking Loon Steelbird with grilled chicken tenders, and it was quite good.  However, it might be best served cold on a hot night as a "Back Porch Sipper".
