2014 Bogel Essential Red
#nb-25-17

I have liked Bogel wines for quite sometime, as I feel they produce a good combination of quality and value not easily found in today's marketplace.  In fact the Bogel Chardonnay is a go to under ten, everyday wine for the Chardonnay Queen.  When I had the chance to sample the Bogel Essential Red,  I was excited, since I was reminded of the "Field Blend" wines from yesteryear.  This one has four varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Syrah and Petite Sirah.  The combination is quite good, and excellent with steak!

The scent of the wine blows up out of the glass like the pungent smells of a basket of ripe fruit.  The flavors swirl throughout with the taste of dark berries and ripe sweet cherries.  There is an herbal background with a touch of vanilla and very mild tannins.  This is a fragrant, jammy wine with a dry finish. The alcohol content is 13.5% and  Norm's score is 89.

This is a good everyday wine for steak, pasta, or barbecued chicken,  or just for back porch sipping.

price : $10 - $15
score:  89
