2014 Bodega Marques de Caceres Rioja
#nb-15-18

We have enjoyed the Rioja wines from Spain for many years, and find them to be an excellent choice for a lighter red dinner wine.  The predominate grape is always Tempranillo, if the wine is not 100% of that grape.

The Marques de Caceres is one which has always been dependable, and the 2014 vintage matches its lineage. The wine is a pretty medium red in color with a subtle nose suggesting spice and a touch of red berry.  The flavor is mostly light cherry with a bit of red raspberry and undertones of vanilla and a little spice.  The finish is clean and pleasant, with a small dose of mellow tannin in the end.  The alcohol content is 13.5%, and Norm's score is 87.

This Rioja is a great choice for pasta and grilled meat.  A suggestion would be to pair it up with a thick juicy pork loin chop from the grill.

price : $11 - $15
score:  87
