2014 Napa Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon
#nb-19-17

We found a great little butcher shop recently, where the steaks are cut to order, so we ordered up some two inch thick New York Strips and went home and fired up the grill.  A good friend joined us for dinner and brought along my favorite choice for steak, a Napa Cab.  You know the saying, "ain't nothing like a "Slab and a Cab", especially if it is a Napa Cab!

This one was a bottle of Napa Cellars Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, which I have enjoyed in the past and was looking forward to the 2014 vintage.  It was a great choice for a thick medium rare strip.  The wine is 91% Cab, and 9% Merlot with a good deep red color and a heady nose.  The flavors leap out of the glass with a sturdy black cherry base surrounded with blackberry, black currant, and a touch of chocolate.  The rich flavors continue into a finish backed by toasty tannins imparted by its fifteen months in oak.  The alcohol content is 14.5%, and Norm's score is 90.

The 2014 Napa Cellars Cab won a gold medal at the prestigious San Francisco Chronicle Competition just recently this year, which is one of the ones to pay attention to.  I love steak and cab, so thanks to our good friend and the folks in Napa for a delightful evening!
