2016 Kim Crawford Spitfire Sauvignon Blanc
Two weeks in a row from "Down Under", with Australia last week, and a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc this week from Kim Crawford. Just like Australia, New Zealnd wines are also great with grilled fare straight from the "Barbie". We paired the Spitfire Sauvignon Blanc with grilled salmon and fresh from the farm yellow crook neck squash.. Its great being a little closer to the country and having access to local fresh farm grown produce. Of course, thanks to modern transportation, we are all close to fresh fish.
The Kim Crawford Spitefire Sauvignon Blanc has a fragrant nose with stone fruit and citrus aromas wafting up from the glass. The flavors are juicy and full, with peach being prominent with a background of citrusy grapefruit and a hint of ripe melon. There is a touch of grassyness in the finish, with a lingering presence of big gobs of fruit producing a sweet-dryness that is clean and refreshing. The alcohol content is 14%, and Norm's score is 89.
This wine will make a great "Back Porch Sipper", and would pair well with almost any fowl or seafood fare. I think it would be a great complement to Chicken Piccata.
score: 89
price: $17 - $22
