2016 Toad Hollow Francine's Selection Unoaked Chardonnay
#nb-05-18

The Toad Hollow Unoaked Chardonnay from Mendocino County is one which we have enjoyed in the past, and the 2016 vintage is absolutely delightful!  The winery has been producing good wine since 1993, and all of the Chardonnay has been fermented in stainless steel for a clean and crisp flavor.

The nose is fresh and attractive with the scent of citrus and apple, and a faint hint of honeysuckle.  The flavors are apple with a little melon and a touch of pineapple which explode in your mouth with a burst of crisp ripe fruit.  With no oak aging, the wine finishes with a crisp dry ending leaving very little aftertaste, but which begs for another sip.  The alcohol content is 13.9%, and Norm's score is 89.

We enjoyed the Toad Hollow as a refreshing before dinner aperitif, but it would make an excellent companion for a variety of foods.  It would certainly make a good match for Chicken Piccata.

score: 89
price: $12 - $15
