If you are looking for a wine that goes good with pot roast on a Thursday night, I think I may have a suggestion for you.  The Authentic Black from Gnarly Head may not be a great wine, but its jammy blackberry flavor really sets off pot roast on a weekday night.

This wine from Lodi, California is mostly Petite Sirah with some Zinfandel, and a few other bit players.  It is not a great wine, or very complex, but it sure tastes good with meat and potatoes.  The flavors of blackberry and black cherry stand out, as this dark colored wine stands up to a hearty dish like pot roast, teaming with the flavors of garlic and parsnips.  The wine finishes with a simple ending of fruit and spice.  The alcohol content is 14.5%, and Norm's score is 87.

We liked the Authentic Black with our pot roast, and would recommend it as a good partner for pizza as well.  Its not really that much of a splurge for a weekday dinner.

score: 87
price: $9 - $12
