2012 Nipozzano Riserva Chianti Ruffina

We have a great little Italian place in Matlacha where we get homemade pasta as well as great pizzas, and one of my favorites is Eggplant Parmesan with angle hair pasta.  We paired this Italian delight with a bottle of Nipozzano Chianti, which was a recent present from friends, and what a wonderful dinner it was!

Nipozzano Riserva is produced by Frescobaldi in Italy, and has been a favorite for years.  The 2012 vintage opens with a beautiful ruby red color, and a nose full of cherries and berries.  The flavors range from cherry to spice, with an earthy backbone, and soft tannins, which lead to a silky smooth finish.  The alcohol content is 13%, and Norm's score is 91.

This Nipozzano Chianti is a perfect match for any Italian dish from veal to pasta, and was the house standard at our favorite little Italian place in Atlanta, until they closed last year after more than fifty years in business.  We still mourn the loss of Alfredo's.

score: 91
price: $19- $24
