2015 Fritz Zimmer Piesporter Goldtrofpchen Riesling Spatlese
#nb-45-17

This year's Thanksgiving Feast found our table with friends, bountiful foods, and three open bottles of wine, in order to suit all palates.  We sampled a New Zealand Rose, a Washington State Chardonnay, and a German Riesling.  Both  the Rose (Matua) and the Chardonnay (Ste. Michelle Indian Wells) were very nice, but my favorite for the turkey was the Riesling from Fritz Zimmer.

This is a Riesling from the famed Piesporter Region in the Mosel, and is a Spatlese, which is just a touch sweeter than the earlier picked Kabinett.  The wine has a fragrant nose, and flavors which sparkle with a kiss of sunshine, blending just the right amount of acidity and sweet fruit to make a delicious companion for turkey.  The prominent flavors are a combination of apple, peach, and pear with a slight hint of orange which leads to crisp finish, which begs for another sip.  This Piesporter is what you might call "Lip Smacking Good!"  The alcohol content is a mild 7.5%, and Norm's score is 91.

While this is an excellent companion for turkey, it is also perfect when paired with a platter of ripe grapes and soft cheeses, such as Brie, or Camembert.
