2016 Duckhorn Sauvignon Blanc
#nb-13-18

We had dinner with good friends at a well known "Coastal Italian' restaurant on the panhandle of Florida last week, and savored the bounty of the sea coupled with Italian fare for a fantastic dinner.  We enhanced our repast with a bottle Duckhorn Sauvignon Blanc which made the experience even more delightful.  Its hard to beat good friends, good food, and good wine!

The Duckhorn from Napa Valley opens with a heady nose of melon and citrus which leads to flavors of melon, lime, a little peach and a hint of lemon zest.  The structure is well balanced with big fruit and crisp acidity, flowing into a refreshing finish which begs for another sip!  The alcohol content is 13.5%, and Norm's score is 90.

Our wonderful meal was mostly shellfish and pasta in rich flavorful sauces, which the wine accentuated extremely well.  My dish was a coastal delight very similar to Cioppino, with a variety of fish and shellfish in a rich broth.  Seafood and Italian is a combination which is hard to beat.

price: $24 - $29
score: 90

2014 Hess Select North Coast Cabernet Sauvignon
#nb-11-18

When you are in the land of fresh seafood, it seems unlikely to be eating anything else.  However a thick juicy steak grilled at the water's edge is as enticing as ever, so one might as well break out a decent Cab to go with that seaside Slab!

The 2014 Hess Select opens with a fragrant bouquet of berries and cherries with a touch of cedar shavings.  The flavors swirl in the glass, with an abundance of cherries and red raspberries, backed by a little plum and a touch of vanilla.  The tannins are sturdy yet smooth with a lingering aftertaste.  The alcohol content is 13.8%, and Norm's score is 88.

This Cab form Napa and Lake Counties is a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, and a slew of other grapes including Petite Sirah and Malbec, and is a great companion for a good slab of beef.

price : $14- $18
score:  88

2015 Ferrai-Carano Fume Blanc
#nb-10-18

The Chardonnay Queen and I whipped up a seafood delight last night which featured bay scallops and shrimp in a "to die for" sauce which was like a combination of Creole and Mexican, since it showcased garlic, cilantro, and hot pepper sauce, with onion, tomato, and horseradish which when combined, were terrific.  We served this over Jasmine rice next to a bottle of Ferrai-Carano Fume Blanc, with fresh asparagus on the side.  What a taste sensation!

This 2015 Fume Blanc has an enveloping bouquet of citrus and ripe tropical fruit, which opens into flavors of stone-fruit and pear, with an underlying current of lemon zest.  This big fruit wine is in perfect harmony with its sturdy acidic backbone, which leads to a very crisp finish, and a strong desire for another sip!  Norm's score is 90.

We enjoyed the Ferrai-Carano with our "Mexican-Creole Shrimp", Jasmine rice, and fresh asparagus.  This wine would pair well with almost any seafood dish, and would make a great companion for Chicken Piccata,

score: 90
price: $15 - $19
