2016 Cedar + Salmon Pinot Gris
#nb-09-18

The Chardonnay Queen asked what the difference was between Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigio, and the answer is, not much.  Both grape names probably represent the same grape, which began as a clone of Pinot Noir.  I used to think that one was a little more dry than the other, however the best definition I can give you is that most folks in France, the Pacific Northwest, and a few other points on the globe use Pinot Gris, while folks in Italy and many other places use the name Pinot Grigio.

This wine is not quite as fruity as some Pinot Grigios, but I would not consider it a real dry wine.  The nose is fragrant and the flavors offer a good mix of peach and pear, with a subtle hint of citrus toward the end  The finish is clean but not really crisp with a lingering bit of fruit which fades away at the end.  Norm's score is 87.

We had a wonderful dinner of bay scallops over angel hair pasta with Alfredo sauce, and a lovely green garden salad.  The wine was quite good with the dinner, and we would certainly re-create it again sometime.

score: 87
price: $14 - $18
