2016 Cline Ancient Vines Zinfandel
#16-19

Old Vine Zinfandel usually makes reference to grapes from vines which are in excess of twenty five years old.  The Cline Ancient Vines Zinfandel is produced primarily from Contra Costa County's Oakley Vineyards. where the age of the vines is between eighty and one hundred years old.  These old vines definitely make good wine!
This is a big Zin with lush, jammy flavors, and a nose to match.  The taste is blackberry with black raspberry, and other wild berry flavors.  There are soft tannins and a bit of spice in the exuberant finish, which lingers and lingers, until you take the next sip.  The alcohol content is 15%, and Norm's score is 91.
We loved the Cline Ancient Vines with our angle hair pasta, soaked in marinara sauce alongside spicy Italian Meatballs.  This one would also pair well with grilled meats, or even barbecue.
score: 91
price: $12 - $16
